Christina A. McKinnon

Christina McKinnon is the founding attorney of McKINNON LEGAL and is the firm’s primary attorney. Her legal career began in labor and employee relations in the healthcare industry, but Ms. McKinnon soon realized that her true calling lay in assisting individuals as they face some of life’s greatest challenges.

Since entering private practice, Ms. McKinnon has focused her career entirely on Florida personal injury and family law. In addition to her work in the courtroom, Ms. McKinnon regularly volunteers with a number of organizations in South Florida. Her Pro Bono work has resulted in a number of honors and awards, including a volunteer award from the Community Partnership for the Homeless (now known as Chapman Partnership) and a Pro Bono award from Dade Legal Aid for her work with the “Put Something Back” program for indigent litigants. Ms. McKinnon was appointed to the 17th Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission for a term ending July 2020, where she presently serves as Chair.

Ms. McKinnon was selected to the Nova Southeastern University Ambassadors Board, which is comprised of leaders who are passionate about strengthening South Florida through education, economic development, healthcare, and civic service.

Calisha A. Francis–Associate Attorney

Francis is a family law and civil defense attorney who is committed to serving her clients by treating them with dignity and respect, by humanizing them to the court and to opposing counsel, and by expeditiously and aggressively assisting them by protecting their legal, civil, and human rights through what is sometimes a daunting and complex legal system.

Calisha was born and raised in the South Florida area. She is an alumna of Florida International University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, with a minor in Religious Studies.  Shortly after graduating from Florida International University with high honors, Calisha attended St. Thomas University School of Law where she acquired her Juris Doctorate degree.  After graduating with honors from St. Thomas Law in 2012 and being admitted to the Florida Bar that same year, she began her legal career as an Associate Attorney practicing heavily in the area of family law matters, civil litigation, foreclosure defense, and general criminal litigation.

In early 2016, she formed her own law practice focusing on Family matters where she handled complex trial litigation, as well as a plethora of and related areas.

With 8 years of family trial litigation experience Calisha has attained a breadth of experience and knowledge regarding aggressive and effective litigation. Throughout her career, she has earned the respect of her clients as well as the respect of the other legal professionals with whom she interacts on a daily basis to protect the rights of her clients.  Attorney Francis decided to exclusively focus on one the niche practice area of divorce and family law in order to offer an unmatched level of expertise and commitment. When it comes to family, it is fair to say Calisha Francis has true experience, both legal and practical, whereby she can better relate to your Marital and Family matters and issues.

Calisha is a member of the state of Florida bar and is admitted to practice in United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Sebastian Leon–Client Relations Specialist

Originally from Bogotá, Colombia and raised in Costa Rica, Sebastian is a graduate of the University of South Florida with a dual bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science. With expertise in both the public and private sector, Sebastian’s success-driven experiences include working for legislators such as a Congresswoman and former Senator, various law firms, student government, and a 501(c)(3) non-profit. In his personal time, Sebastian is a seasoned musician, avid gym goer, and a devoted consumer of fiction novels.

Genesis Martin – Paralegal / Case Manager

With years of experience, exclusively in family law, Genesis brings a strong client-centered approach to our firm. She graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with an emphasis in the Pre-Law track. After completion of her first year of studies at St. Thomas University School of Law, she was awarded a Certification in Legal Research and finished in the top 30% of her class. Genesis uses her legal education and extensive experience to help families in transition by providing detailed support to both her clients and the attorneys. Having direct involvement from beginning to end in cases ranging from complex litigation to uncontested matters, Genesis is devoted to providing all of her clients with the support they need. In her spare time, Genesis loves to immerse herself in fiction novels, true crime documentaries and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Jeremy Hernandez-Lum Tong–law Clerk

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Jeremy is a law student pursuing his dual US-Canada Juris Doctor at the University of Ottawa, and done in partnership with American University Washington College of Law. He also did his undergraduate studies in a variety of social sciences and humanities at the University of Toronto. He has a passion for research and writing. In his spare time, Mr. Hernandez-Lum Tong enjoys the theater, the arts, volunteering, and learning new languages.
